Don't worry, Mirrorlink is not a great option.
I used it only once and I prefer to use the screen of my smartphone. The reasones: not so good resolution of the screen, no radio or cd if you use Mirrorlink (you can only listen the music you have in the smartphone), lot of limits for the software you can use (i.e. only GoogleMaps for the gps)...

is there a way to mirror the phone's screen using a regular AUX cable? It seems like even if you can the video through it will only work if the brakes are on?

Im no programmer but im sure someone can hack into the systems and disable that feature...people have been hacking android phone etc which I think those are harder to hack.

I searched around the forum and found this:
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/8160235-post9.html

Which reference to the Prestigous Society website with this product:
http://www.prestigioussociety.com/?page_id=1196

It might be our answer to enable the video functionality while in motion...

But it's quiet expensive... More than 300$ just to enable video!

I have the video enhancement box from PS. It works pretty well except full-screen button is also locked out by speed, unless the car is traveling less than 5mph. You can watch full-screen while driving except you have to use voice command to switch input and it will play videos in full-screen.

$299 for Nav and video enhancement, video enhancement only option is $199. I wish I had just bought the Nav + Video but I don't want to take out the trims again.

I have a LEXUS IS300H from August 2013 and the only phones that work are SONY and SAMSUNG and only some models and you have to load on the phone this app (mirrorlink). Lexus is now marketing a new GPS in Catalonia (Barcelona) that can be added to IS models that do not have a GPS. HOPE it helps.
Regards

Prestigious Society has similar product coming out for 3IS. I'm sure this is similar one, but you still need to use the phone to interact so kind of pointless while you're driving. Good for watching videos off cell signal.

IMO mobile phones are far easier and flexible to use and update than the car laggy out dated controls
