Me, too, especially I had the 1IS before and it is just a matter of getting used to it. This is a measure Lexus has used to differentiate the interior refinements between IS and GS.

Since CT and ES, I knew it is coming in IS. If you want to do some cost cutting in the interior, better cut it in door panels than the centre cluster.

I remember when that trim you mention was an even higher quality looking glossy piano black plastic...
