It's the clear coat that is able to close minor scratches. Some chemical reactions happens when the coat is subject to ultra violet light/sunlight.

The thing is. Ive never believed the self healing thing since it started. If it said "extra hard scratch resistant clear coat" then yes, seems legitimate. Self healing sounds surreal. Besides, I would say that i am an experience detailer, been doing it since my first car. The ones with "self healing" paint were the worst to work on. Nissan GTR for example, swirls just wouldnt come out, even with a rotary buffer and no matter which grade polish was used. Its such a pain to work with.

here's more info.
Not sure if this is the stuff Lexus uses, but I imagine it's some of the same technology.

Pretty cool information. It must be a costly proposition over traditional coatings and that is why we do not get it here.

I hate buying cars -- "I've spent the better part of the day trying to gather information on the 2014 IS350 sport sedans equipped and optioned as you'd like with the Luxury Package, Rear Sunshade, and Radar Cruise Control. Given that there are none built or equipped that way in the U.S. just yet, I had to wait for my evening inventory and ordering manager to come in to give me the information I needed. Because everything about the new 2014 IS is just starting to trickle out to the dealerships from Lexus Corp, I was given an approximation of the cost of the car you want. The IS350 with the Luxury Package is approximately $51k, and the other stand alone features, the Rear Sunshade is typically $700-$800 in cost, and the Radar Cruise Control is roughly another $2-$3k which all totals to just under $55k plus tax Sir. What would be your next course of action and how would you like us to proceed?"

Cars Direct has the car optioned with Levinson & Luxury Package w/Gray Wood + Technology Package & Rear Window shade ($200) & Radar Cruise Control ($500) for $49,135.

Something is wrong with the pricing from the dealer. It seems as if they are still using the information released in late April to early May. The sticker prices are what they are. Is the dealer trying to get a premium over sticker...

I'm not sure but will try to remember to give them the benefit of doubt.

The option prices that I have received from my dealer for my order are in line with what is posted on the website.

I doubt this is what Lexus has used in their self -healing paint because it won't stand such abrasion.

However, what is shown in the video is probably the technology used in self-healing paint protection film such as the Xpel Ultimate and a few others.

In the video it mentions polyurethane which is the main ingredient of paint protection film (clear bra)

Belfast becomes the first city in the UK to launch the new Lexus IS at a special event tomorrow evening, 27 June - assuming the car actually arrives, the boat had not yet even docked in England this morning!

8000 Lexuses and Toyotas are on the boat, including the first set of ISs in the UK.

Launches in the rest of the UK take place on 12 July.

Unfortunately I leave Belfast tomorrow *morning* so will miss it - I return on 13th, by which time deliveries across the UK will have started. I'll have to wait another couple of weeks for my own, unfortunately, as I specified a black interior.

They have 4 new IS's here. Two are sold, but they new owners can't have them until July 1 (or 4th) they said.

Keyes Lexus in Van Nuys just wrote to say that they have an IS350 & an IS F-sport and that I could drive one home tonight -- but I've read on this forum (and the post above) that no one can take one home until the 1st. Is this true?
