ticking sound
Hi all I know the 2GR-FKS has high pressure fuel injectors and is ticking noisy because of the port and direct injectors. Although, I noticed that if I use Toyota Genuine oil vs Pennzoil Platinum or Mobil 1 the noise is louder with Toyota oil.
Does anyone know if this makes sense that it might be lifters as well or experienced something similar or am I just imagining this?

I assume you are changing the oil yourself? Is the oil level the same as it was with the prior oil?
I never noticed any significant noise with my IS 350; I only heard normal direct injection ticking and some slight valve train clatter at times, but nothing unhealthy.

Yea I do my own, always same amount in 6 qts.
I wouldnt say its loud enough to warrant taking it in just TGMO sounds to me like its more audible than the other oils. I guess a better way to do it would be to record the sound from the same location with each oil to see.

I notice a slight increase in tick volume as I approach the end of an oil change cycle. Is it due to a slight loss of oil over the past year? A slight change in viscosity over that time period? Don’t know, and really don’t care, as long as the tick volume decreases after the next oil change. My car is 12 years old and runs great, so the mild tick doesn’t bother me.
