Intermittent “Shift Into P…” Error
Hey everyone!
Running into an odd issue where I’m randomly getting a “Shift Into P Position” error intermittently for one second.
I have a 2014 IS 350 and it starts just fine but the error pops up for a quick second every once in a while.
i just replaced my head unit with the Hamilton CarPlay unit but I don’t think that would cause the issue. Maybe it’s the 12v battery? I’m not sure but if anyone has any advice I’d appreciate it!

The "Shift Into P" message has appeared for me if I tried to turn the engine off or open a door while the car is not in Park. Though, I haven't seen it pop up randomly before.
I think an auto parts store should be able to test the battery for you.

Make sure the shift lever isn’t binding on something in the ‘P’ area, and moves fully to the left before you shutoff the car. When I was experimenting with my head unit and had the console components disassembled yet still connected so I could drive the car, the shift lever was hard to get fully into the ‘P’ position, and I’d get that message.
Odd. I don’t think I’ve ever noticed that before. I’ll have to test the door theory today!
