After making a post on another platform, this is all the correct info I gathered to help those with the radio defect. If you’re searching “why is my radio not working in my Lexus” and your radio is experiencing the repeating restart loop or not working at all, this is for you!! Also if you are experiencing the reboot loop eventually your radio will go out overtime.
!!!!!! If your radio is doing the reboot loop or just not working at all after experiencing the reboot loop, the issue is not going to be fixed by ordering an aftermarket screen. You have to get the head unit that’s connected to the cd player and controls replaced !!!!!!!
!!!!!! If you find one used or order a new one through Lexus, you have to match the plate id numbers. Be careful and read the descriptions on eBay. Check for warranties and if it’s a working unit. Be mindful that the same thing could happen if you buy a used one !!!!!!! Wouldn’t be surprised if the new ones from Lexus are defective too.
Some people have had luck with eBay. Others have had luck with getting it repaired through an audio shop.
If you’re like me and have p11010 ML unit, all I have to say is good luck. $6,500 if you order new from Lexus, $1,500 for used on eBay. Im probably not going to get mine fixed due to it being at 160,000 miles, but if I would try, I’d go the audio repair shop route.
!!!!!! I will post the suggested links for recommended audio repair shops people have had success with at the end/bottom of this !!!!!!!
There was some info about trying a radio with different faceplate ids, only if the wiring matches up, but it’s not a perfect fix. I believe they said it’s trickier if it’s a ML unit. I’ll leave this part up to someone who knows more about the mismatching radios aspect to comment. Crying in p11010. Has anyone swapped a p11010 for a p11012?
Overall I feel like the best options Ive read was to get it repaired by a good audio repair store, or try your luck with eBay. If you have a warranty that covers it, ofc that would be ideal.
I wish Lexus would have put out an affordable option by now instead of charging the customer an absurd amount when it’s not the customers fault. They know there’s not an aftermarket option. Regardless of if Lexus manufacturers the radios or has another company do it, it’s not right. Too many people all over have been experiencing this for so long.
Wishing everyone luck who has this issue and trying to fix it. Sorry to all affected cuz we all know it sucksssss.
Taking the radio out is actually pretty easy. I’m 24 and had no experience doing something like that but did it today checking for unplugged wires. There’s many videos on how to take apart everything correctly if you’re going to do the labor yourself.
If you understand the tech aspect of the hardware I posted a link at the bottom of this thread. Someone made a video on the issue they found that causes the radio to go bad and how to fix it. I would mess that all the way up if I tried and end up with more issues lol.
