Default Bumper scuff Caviar

Somehow I got a bumper scratch. Looks like from road debris hitting the bumper and causing essentially a straight line scratch. It goes up to the wheel well, so it looks like something on the roadside poked it. I have the Caviar touch up paint, but the area is too large and the repair will look obvious.

It is not bad enough to warrant a new bumper. Any kind of black “pen” system to try? I need something to at least hide the white scratch.

I just bought and used for the first time a kit from Dr. Colorchip: https://drcolorchip.com/

Go to YouTube and check out some incredible results people have gotten with a kit from them. Definitely a step above the dealership touch up paint pen thingy.

This stuff works. And it’s a quantum leap over paint pens.

I am old school and don’t usually fall for fancy new re-packaging things (like headlight polish “kits” - just re-packaging materials most of us have on the shelves). But this stuff works. My dad, who does go in for any new gimmick, bought some for my mom’s RX, 1E0 Flint Mica.

I used it on a similar colored car in the family (GS, 1G0 Smoky Granite Mica) to try to remove some very, very bad keying scratches some random vandal in Seattle put on the car. Totally disfgured the rear quarter, drew a block/stick man figure over the whole panel. Fortunately it was not down to metal I could tell, just primer.

I could not believe the results. You have to go look for the scratches to find them, later. After I machine buffed it and waxed it, you cannot find them except where I messed up a little. I could have got this result with many hours of work over days. This took no time, really.

I did not get a good “before” pic - I already 1/2 filled the color in before I took this. The figure is down 1/2 way over the bumper cover; it’s hard to appreciate in the shade. It was horrid looking and embarassing.

A couple weeks later I spent 1/2 hour polishing and waxing. Two passes with a cutting pad and compound on high speed, two passes with a finishing pad and polish. TW Pro Graphene wax afterwards. You literally can’t find it except where I messed up.

In two spots, I did not rub the paint hard enough and left some outside the scratch. I can sand/polish this out if I want, but it’s minor enough I won’t do that unless I’m doing something else at the same time. Blue circles show where I left a little extra I should have used solvent to remove. So don’t do that.

There were also two scratches inside the red circle, unrelated. One horizontal, one below it vertical. I cannot find them now. Even nose to the paint, looking where I know they were.

And remember, this wasn’t even a correct color match, just close (1E0 vs 1G0).
