Hello all, to preface I have a 2018 IS350 AWD, ~94K mi. Keep up with all maintenance. The 2GR-FKS is making an unusually loud tapping noise. I know they usually do and I’ve gotten used to it, but this is noticeably louder. I can attach a video if needed but anyone else experience this?

I have to be honest, it only started doing this after a trip to TN from OH. I also did tail of the dragon and pushed it. I just really hope this isn’t a cam issue.

 

There is a very high chance that your car is just fine. All 2GR FKS make weird noises lol.

it is perfectly fine. There are several TSBs out for a noisy vacuum pump. The high pressure fuel injectors also make a ruckus and finally these are just loud engines. If it doesn't sound like a sewing machine it ain't working good :P

 

the 2gr f(xx) engines all dp that. Run some intake cleaner spray and a can of engine flush before your next oil change. Add a can of ceratec or similar to that oil. Should fix the issue

 

Its normal. What sounds like lifter tap is the port injectors. That V6 has both direct injection is quieter so when it cycles to port its louder.
