Default Winter Blend Gas

Dear ClubLexus mad scientists,

I understand that the winter blend with its higher butane rating is slightly less energy efficient and will reduce gas mileage by a small margin.

What does that do to the octane rating? How about overall engine performance?

PS. for the Texans:

I wonder if here in South-East Texas we switch over later than the rest due to much warmer weather.

The octane rating will be the same. You should, likewise, assume the anti-knock properties of the gasoline to be similar as well.

I think there several sides to this discussion:
1) Colder air will drop your mpg simply because air gets denser and the computer compensates by injecting more fuel to maintain stoichiometric ratio for combustion.
