1300 miles on my car and the tire. Catches a nail 1.5" from sidewall. Go to Lea achwab and they said they can do it but they won't guarantee the wheel won't scratch... anyone else had issues with these wheels?
I don't think it's the wheel; it's the luck of the draw. I'm not seeing where the nail is from your pic, but I know most places wouldn't touch a tire that has damage on the sidewall for safety/liability reasons. Depending on where the nail is on the sidewall, I'd still be concerned even though they are able to fix it. Check this out: https://www.discounttire.com/learn/t...ted%20in%20red.
Hopefully, it's truly fixable with a plug. If not, unless you have a tire hazard warranty or something, you may be looking at a new tire.
Tire places replace tires on expensive wheels all day long. Maybe ask the dealership if they would offer to repair if it was damaged while they replace tire? I never thought to even ask and I’m over 50 and taking care of up to 4 cars at a time. But I’m not super picky.
I just don't want the wheel scratched up but I guess there's nothing I can do.
I would try another shop if I am being honest. What they said regarding scratching the wheel is, pardon my Italian, baloney.
I believe they can at least improvise a way to protect the wheel. The black chrome finish is basically unrepairable, so the threat of a scratch is actually a big deal if you ask me. And I know what I am talking about... I had a whole fiasco where a tire shop scratched my wheel and ended up having to replace the entire wheel because they couldn't fix the scratch. If you have a Discount Tire by your location I would recommend going to them for a couple of reasons:
Even if you didn't buy the tires from them, which you didn't since it's the ones on the car, the repair is free
You can request that they use their automated machine that removes the wheel from the rim without human interference. I request this since I have the BBS wheels and it comes out flawless every time. It actually "pries" the tire from the backside so it can't damage the face, and even then it doesn't damage the backside.
In the unlikely even that they F it up, they are very well known to do right by the customer and either repair or replace the rim. In the case of this finish, replacement is the only option.
