Good video tutorial, showing use of Lisle 24680 Spill Free funnel to remove air from coolant system;

Also if needed, check the coolant overflow reservoir and add Toyota 00272-SLLC2 50/50 Pre-Diluted Super Long Life Coolant, until coolant reaches the fill line shown on the coolant overflow reservoir reservoir.

AND the new trans is WAY better than the junk one that was in it. Now drives smooth, quiet, solid!! Feels like a new car! Im gonna keep it longer now

Good hearing that adding additional coolant resolved your overheating issue. Even better that that the installed transmission has had a positive outcome, and you've reconsidered, an will keep the vehicle longer!!!

Sounds like replacement trans came with the heat exchanger and the shop opened up the cooling system, clueless they lost a gallon and didn't have the sense to address it.

Not impressed. Hopefully everything else is okay. Did they pull the pan or just toss it in the hole? Do you know?

They apologized for the mistake. I hope no engine damage happened, its running normal so assume its ok. IDK about the pan.

2013FSport, when you referenced the Heat Exchanger in the previous post, is that different than the transmission fluid oil cooler located on the transmission?

The oil cooler is a liquid to liquid heat exchanger (engine coolant to ATF). Correct.

Thank you!

Would you also know if transmission cooler used for the IS F is a larger capacity compared to the cooler used with the IS 350; Part looks similar.
33493-30020 Trans Oil Cooler (2010 -2013 IS250 / IS350 AUTO RWD & AWD)
33493-30010 Trans Oil Cooler 33493-30010IS (06 - 2010 IS250 / IS350 AUTO RWD & AWD)
15700-38030 (08 - 2014 ISF)

I didn't look up any of the parts, the 8spd in the IS-F has a thermostat controlled diverter like the Tundra w tow package, when the ATF gets hot enough, it's diverts forward to an air to oil heat exchanger. Otherwise it circulates through a puck at the trans like ours to heat up sooner from the engine coolant.

A760H Tundra w tow package, the lines leave the trans case and go to that thermostatically controlled block. Cold start Oil circulates through the puck. If the ATF gets over 220F (guessing) it gets diverted forward for additional cooling. This could be done on the A960 or A760 if one wanted too.

Thank you for the follow up and providing the detailed breakdown! Much appreciated.

To confirm, the IS F has an additional heat exchanger. installed in addition to the "puck" (trans cooler), which isn't present on the IS 350, correct?

Yes, all IS-X have a puck.

Did you actually bleed the coolant system? If not you're looking at early failure of the water pump.

And since the car overheated, a head gasket leak could have started (happened to a buddy on an es330). Really pathetic the shop did that, it's obvious they just ran it around the block to see if it drove and didn't even fully warm the car up.

If I were you, I'd just dump the car while it's running decently before any more problems arise. If you can't do all the work yourself, most older cars are cost prohibitive to maintain at $100/hr+ shop rates...especially with shoddy work that ends up causing more repairs.

The whole cooling system was replaced last year--Lexus waterpump, thermostat, main hoses, radiator, coolant, car is running good now with new trans Im just gonna keep driving it. My friend at his repair shop did the trans so I couldnt get too mad. I dont see or smell any coolant leaks, Id like to sell it get ISF but prices and bank rates still high!!
