This is a 2009 IS250 AWS Base Passenger Front Axle carrier bearing issue. We have owned the car for 7 months, and it is 13 years old.

Boots on both front axles were torn and need replacing. $850 quote from my local non-dealer shop (Point-S). The driver's side was done in about 2 hours but the passenger side has been an issue. It took about 9 hours for them to get the carrier bearing out. It has been a week now and we can not find an axle that fits. The shop has tried 3 different aftermarket axles that come with the carrier bearing. But the bearing is too small! We now have an OEM RF CV Axle from Lexus at the cost of $900 and its carrier bearing is too small also.

The dealer has no idea about what is going on. Does anyone have suggestions?

Side shot of old carrier bearing

Left is the old bearing, Right is the OEM axle and bearing.

Take the sleeve OFF the old bearing and put back in the housing in the car. The bearing goes in the sleeve and the two are stuck together. They need to come apart.

As above, concerning your mechanic doesn't realize this.

The same concern about my mechanic! Especially since I asked him if the bearing had a sleeve over it and was told it does not. I wonder if I can buy the sleeve? Maybe easier than trying to remove the stuck sleeve.

With it out like that, heating the shell will expand it and it will fall off even if rusted.

But ya, I didn't want to say but that should have been pretty obvious once he did the clip and the locator bolt. Had he looked at a diagram, he would would have had the 5th clue it's a sleeve.

Hopefully you can use one of the good remain axles.
