Default Trying to identify this sound

Ok I finally got her titled and tagged and was able to take my first drive today:

2008 IS250 MT

I don't think this is a transmission noise. This noise wasn't noted by the remote inspection service ( lemonsquad.com )

The best explanation I can give is while driving and with the clutch pushed in and in neutral the car axles sound like a dry skateboard. Whirring noise when not under load even when coasting. I'm thinking wheel bearing's not greased but that wasn't indicated by the inspector. I searched in this forum but didn't find an answer. Is this normal? I have a 2008 LS460 and a 2005 Nissan Titan and neither sound like this.

I'll try to get my brother to drive alongside me and record the sound next week.

Thank you,
Jeffrey

I’m thinking the throw out bearing.

Sounds plausible. I'll try coasting in neutral as well when I record the sound.

Wheel bearings generally make noise when loaded. As such, find a safe wide road free of vehicles and do a giant slalom. Try it with windows up and windows down. If a left bearing is bad, it will be louder when steering right and vice versa.

The throw out bearing typically makes the most noise when the clutch is depressed but can make dry whirring noise when disengaged, pedal up. You should be able to tell by just barely pushing the pedal on, off repeatedly.

As for the trans, if in neutral and stopped with the clutch out, the input shaft is spinning... If it makes noise now, that's no good. Get under it and listen. Do so safely, brake set, wheels blocked and all that. Place a wooden dowel to suspect area and the other end to your ear.

You can always drain the fluid and examine it too.
