Electrical problems
Hi. I have a 2008 IS250 with about 150K. Unfortunately I've had to keep it in the sun in Las Vegas as my wife's 2014 RX350 (with 30K) is occupying the garage. I don't know if this is playing a factor.
I've recently run into some electrical problems that seemed at happen at once or within a few days,
1. Windshield washer fluid not working (but wipers do)
2 Tire sensor is stuck on even though tires are new and inflated properly
3. Touch screen started to become unresponsive.
Took it to my mechanic Freedom Automotive in Henderson, most honest guys I've met! highly recommend). He said it sounds like the controller but wants me to take it to Lexus for a $250 inspection to make sure what we're dealing with. I think I'm going to go ahead and do it but I'm in the market for a new (used one) anyway, so I don't know if I want to dump another $1,000 into a car only worth about $4,000 - $5,000.
The controller seems to sell used on Ebay for about $100 plus installation. The mechanic mentioned there may need to be a $200 programming fee at Lexus. So if this is the ONLY issue, it will be up there at around $1,000 give or take a couple of hundred bucks.
Has anyone experienced this before? I'm thinking to just replace the controller to see what happens and save the $260 inspection by Lexus. However, that might not be the wisest thing to do.

I also have a sputtering problem but the mechanic says the engine is sound. When I'm at a red light the motor loses a bit of power on occasion. It's not something I can reproduce and just happens at random. I just had it tuned about 2 months ago so I'm wondering if this could be related to electronics/ sensors.

What controller is your mechanic suggesting to replace?
And it also sounds like rough idling may be because of the carbon build up as AMIRZA786 mentioned above.

1. Warm engine until temp gauge reads approximately in center between cold and hot.
2. Rev engine to 4,000 rpm for 30 seconds.
3. Immediately as you get to 30 seconds, run it up to 6,000 rpm very quickly and immediately release gas pedal.
4. Let it return to idle. If misfires are present, you will know by the unmistakable shaking or shuddering. You may not get misfires or codes the first time around, which is why dealers sometimes keep cars overnight to try what they described as a cold soak.
