Dealer "Prank" got me
I recently acquired my 2008 IS350 and as much as I am enjoying getting to know her - she never fails to surprise. I hardly had the car, the ink on its Title was still warm off the MVS press - when the Takata Airbag Recall showed up.
Of course I called the nearest dealer (Cherry Hill,NJ) and complied with the 1st available date for the work.
I picked her up Friday and was happy to see a fresh car wash and a full tank of gas as a Thank You for dealing with the inconvenience of an overnight Dealer stay.
Cool. Who doesn't love FREE GAS ?! Off I go fat, dumb and HAPPY.
So, today I take my wife shopping for some bedding flowers - yeah I know- this car is NOT the station wagon better suited flower duty but I don't have an (Audi) Allroad,
and it is my 1st chance to impress my wife about why the IS is a cool car sooooo flower shopping we go.
Just over $100 worth of bedding flowers were carefully chosen, purchased and wheeled over to the IS350. Hit the trunk release . . .nothing.
Wait - what - this thing just opened when I was dealing with the spare tire TPMS stuff last week. Hit the button again. Nothing.
By some really bad sense of timing - the trunk switch refused to acknowledge the remote fob. Hmmmm - no worries, open the drivers door and punch the interior dash mounted trunk release button - CRICKETS
No "click"
No open !?
Ask me what a back seat triple full of flowers looks like? Talk about an air freshener. Sheesh.
I assumed some wire was nipped or tucked and it neutered my switch. By DEFAULT I BLAME THE DEALER.
But - knowing this car and its surprises (window switches that FORGET they are in service if the battery dies) I figured I better RTFM.
Holy Moly - right there on page 42 - a switch inside the glove box that KILLS the FOB/dash switch ability to open the trunk. Why I do NOT know. Dealer sure thought it was funny to push it though!
This car I would have more reasonably expected a switch to kill all rear lights ( as in escape and evasion from LE maneuvers) but - I NEVER expected to find this.
The Dealer tech probably thought it would be "funny" - or maybe - just maybe - "profitable" if they charged for a " trunk reset"
: )
Moral of the story - RTFM
PS: NO DEALER CHARGED FOR A TRUNK RESET - ENTIRELY MY ATTEMPT AT HUMOR!

I'm driving with my wife one evening. She sees the Power ECT/Snow switch. She asks me what it is. At the stop light l tell her to switch it up. When the light turns green, I floor it and she goes into a panic and tries to turn it off. I finally slow down and turn it off, turn to her and say "now you know". Now if I want to scare her I tell her I'm turning it on (btw, it doesn't make the car faster, it just increases throttle and transmission response)!
Yeah, that button my 2IS is very sensitive as well. I often find myself "locked" out of the trunk. Immediately when it happens though I know it was because the previous day I was in the glove box for something and somehow hit it. I LOL every time.
