So I have been having this issue since a few months with my IS250 AWD 2008. When I put my car in reverse, the taillight reverse light turns on but my backup camera and the R light on the dashboard does not work. What could be the reason behind this? Could it be something to do with the gear position sensor?

 

Probably related to shifter inside car for automatic cars. Does reverse white lights come one?

take apart console and check the shift assembly internals. Will take some expertise to fix the contacts inside if it’s issue.

 

Yes, the reverse lights do come on. For a while there was a 50-50 chance of the camera coming on, but now it does not at all.
