IS220D Limp mode until warmed up
Hello Everyone!
I Have a 2006 IS220D with 140k miles in it for almost 2 years. Last autumn it didn't start up without EasyStart and once it started, it went to limp mode with the error code " P0093 Large Fuel Leak Detected". Even after restarting, it kept failing until the engine warmed up. Afterwards it worked well, but the consumption went from 40mpg down to 32mpg. The oil is fine and there's no signs of head gasket issues. Took it to my mechanic a few times and have the following parts replaced/fixes done so far:
- Battery [Feb. 2019]
- ECU remapping (blocking and bypassing the EGR valve) [Feb. 2019]
- Brake pads and discs [Apr. 2019]
- Oil and Oil Filter [Apr. 2019]
(the one's below were done after AA diagnosed fuel pressure/circulation issues)
- Starter motor [Jan. 2020]
- Fuel pump and filter [Jan. 2020]
- Glow Plugs [Jan. 2020]
- Exhaust pipe repair [Jan. 2020]
The consumption is now again stable (42-44mpg), but the problem is still that the car is hard to start after a day being idle and goes limp mode (P0093) until the engine warms up to a certain threshold. Mechanic tested it, and said there isn't the slightest evidence of leak (I trust the man). I've installed a battery killswitch to see if it disappears if I disconnect the battery for a while. It didn't help much. The only thing I've figured out so far, is that If I keep the engine running above 1.5 rpm it doesn't go to limp mode, so I keep doing it until it warms up (frustrating while changing gears and awaiting for green light). But because of this habit, I don't burn diesel efficiently, and a blast of snow white cloud emerges from the exhaust soon after.
I know that I should've bought an IS250 (didn't know it back then), but despite this hassle, the car runs great. Fortunately (due to the outbreak and the semester's end) I don't need the car until September. By then I should have enough savings to work on it...
Any help is appreciated and wish all of you good health!
Victor

Never heard if an IS220.
Is there a cold start injector in your car? Could that be the problem? I am not 100% sure if cold start injector is being used only during the start-up or if it is in use until the engine fully warms up. I have the opposite problem where my IS250 goes in to limp mode after it warms-up. Until then, it runs great.

Check out this UK site and thread. A lot of time and resources were put into resolving P0093.
If this were my problem I may be suspect of the sensor generating the code. The gas engines have these High Pressure Fuel Sensor fail and the leave the cars stranded.
Both Techstream and OBD Fusion phone app can see the HP fuel values. You could monitor and even log data and try to connect the dots.

@skyfox
I've red something relevant about the fifth injector going bad after some time. Might be that one you're referring to.
As for the IS250 I can't really help much. I remember my MX5 had similar issue (turned out to be cooling failure)I did the followings fixed/replaced and it worked fine afterwards:
- Radiator, and radiator cap
- Thermostat
- Coolant level
Hope it helps and thanks for your reply

Holy ****! Now I know why IS220D sells relatively cheap. Thank you very much for, I'll get to reading
