Default manual trans shift boot problems

Calling all owners with a manual trans.....The metal ring around the shift boot base pops out of the opening. Noticed this on other manual trans IS250s as well. I'm thinking there was probably some plastic hold-down connection that has broken or come undone. My plan now is to pop off the console and figure a way to secure it. Anyone else overcome this issue?
Thanks, Mike

Very common issue on the manuals. The replacement part has since been discontinued. My first IS250 manual had the same issue but my current IS250 manual does not.
I would start with taking off the console and looking underneath and go from there. On other cars with a similar problem I had to make new tabs so the shift boot that had metal wiring could securely go in place.
Other than that maybe some online junkyards have the part needed.

I haven't come across any discontinued 2IS parts yet, so I'm not entirely sure what you're referring to in this post.

As far as the shift boot is concerned, there's really only the two pieces, the boot (which includes the metal ring and the fibre reinforcement) and the panel the boot fits into, both are still available. The boot part number is 58808-53040-C0 and the panel is 58821-53030. From memory I believe the panel comes without the shift pattern plate, if that is the case, the part number for the plate is 33621-53030.

I do see a lot of cars where the boot isn't sitting correctly, so I am glad to see people care about it.

Thanks for the responses and I appreciate the part #s, Jeff. I'll take NinjSocks' advice and pop the console off and see if I can figure a way to secure my boot, if not I'll order the panel with Jeff's part number info, it's relatively cheap. They want $150 for the boot, I think mine will spruce up with a little cleaner and conditioner. Will let you know how I make out.

An update for you, I pulled the console and found that the tabs which hold the shift boot in place were broke on the driver's side. Solution? A binder clip!

Default Same issue, tab is broken

I just recently purchased an is250 and the boot keeps popping out. The driver side tab is broken as well, did this binder clip permanently fix this issue? And how exactly is this clipped? Thanks in advance.
