CONTROL ARM BUSHING torn questions
Hi,
Every time I take a car to stealership for minor check up something new comes up ( 2 months ago it wasn't detected and now is and there was barely any driving).
Now Lexus dealer says I have CONTROL ARM BUSHING torn on driver & passenger side and car has only 22k miles on it. How is this possible ?
They ask for crazy money for it. Over $800 each side.
How difficult is it done by yourself ? Maybe I should just take it to indy shop?

Do you see uneven tire wear, steering problems, pulling to one side?
Can you post the pictures of both bushings?
I got my RC F bushings online, took the car to my mechanic he replaced them and charged me for 45 min labor, and yes dealer mechanics are crooks!!!

I'm guessing no, but is this car lowered? If so that process could have lead to an early failure. But 22k mi is pretty young for these to fail.
People fail to realize that vulcanized rubber bushings should only be tightened (shock bottom, LCA pinch nut, upper control to body mount), should only be tightened when the vehicle is at ride height or they are over-rotated and destroy the bushings.

has the car seen extreme weather, cold or hot? in NY I'd assume so.
it is unlikely that the bushings are toast at that mileage regardless but as stated if you are lowered it could exacerbate the wear.
they are pretty easy to replace so if you decide to replace them, the dealership should be your last place to do the install.
any indy shop should be able to knock it out in less than an hour (assuming it's the lower control arm bushing).
