ISF steering ECU Mod
Awesome write up. I have the 89650-53040, and I felt the same way coming from the stock AWD ecu. I think it was the softest steering wheel feel ever. With the ISF it does feel more planted. I would say even with the RR USRS bushings. The car felt about 15% more planted than before.
So if your looking for a better steering wheel feel. You can't go wrong with either ISF ecu's 89650-53041, or 89650-53042.

does the 53042 ecu fit all 2is models? I have a 09 is250.
For the record, the steering ECU, each time it's calibrated, will feel "light" on the first drive and it seems pretty much the same on the second drive. By the 3rd and 4th drives (say after 10 miles or more) it firms up nicely. Just in case anyone installs a new one, but doesn't notice a change. You should also recalibrate any steering ECU when first installed.
I decided to recalibrate it last night to test it out and noticed it was very light during the first drive. Got heavier again after subsequent ones. Just like the first time around.

If a new / unused module is installed, it will need to be "calibrated". Is this a process that needs to be performed by Lexus or something that the module performs itself over time after installation?
Installing a used ECU module, does not require it to be "calibrated", or is calibration required regardless, when installing a new or used module in a vehicle?
Interested in performing the EPS ECU upgrade as well. and wanted to confirm the following;

I'm running the 08-10 ISF ECU. It was a used unit from a member on the ISF forums. I installed plung n play never had it recalibrated. It's been probably 5 years now no issues.
One thing I need to stress, you are on your own risk if using the Ebay/Amazon/China cable when performing any ECU calibration. You may end up render your ECU dead or fried. So think twice before doing anything with fake/unlicensed stuff.
Slight addition to this: Your average cable from eBay/wherever may not have the pin you need to calibrate the steering process, it will fail during the process and you will lose all power steering and have to take it to the dealer to program it (it is drivable, but again, no power steering). I forget which one it is since it's been quite a while since I did the steering ECU swap, but I imagine it's in one of these steering ECU threads which exact cable you should look for. If you're not sure what you need, just go to the dealer and have them program it, should only charge an hour of labor at most.

One thing I noticed, once it goes to the actual calibration process, (the process with blue percentage bars) DO NOT ever touch or move(even slightly) the steering wheel or it will trigger an error.
Another addition to this based from my experience and btw, just upgraded the 08IS350 EPS ECU last week - got the 53040 variant, when the calibration/recalibration failed, you will end up with a dead (no power) steering wheel. DO NOT WORRY. Try running the recalibration process again, or relaunch TS app, then repeat the process - it should go thru and complete the process after a couple of retries. Another note would be, part of the process is TS will confirm for the P/S light on the dashboard, you will not see this light anymore with the upgraded EPS ECU (at least I didn't) but it won't matter, just keep on clicking next and it will not error out.

is there any benefit to recalibrate the isf steering ecu if it’s been installed and working fine for 5+ years?
In my case, I always like to start fresh since I bought a used product and didn’t know which car it came from and what kind of settings and learned values saved to its memory. It’s always good to recalibrate it, sort of proper introduction of a newly installed part to the car’s system.
Follow up with regard to installing the IS F steering ECU (Part# 89650-53042).in IS 250/350. Can a new unit be installed then be driven without issue to dealer to calibrate? Once at the dealership, is there anything specific the service manger would need to know, or just state that a new steering ECU was installed and would like a calibration performed (or don't mention I installed it for fear of them not wanting to do it, and just state you want the steering ECU recalibrated as "preventive maintenance"? What would the calibration service cost? It would be great if there was a list of known members with Toyota Tec stream experience in a given region of the country, who may be able to assist, if unable to bring to a dealership!
