Default Back Bolt on Intake Manifold

How in the world did you guys take off that back bolt or nut on the Intake Manifold? I have been trying to get this bolt or nut off for about 3 hours now. Went and bought several tools but to no avail. Please tell me your secret.

Get a 1/4 drive 12mm socket + 1/4 drive small ratchet. Perferably a slim design one will work best. That's the way I've been taking it loose. You'll have to get the socket on first then follow putting the ratchet on. Move the hoses and what not out of the way.

I'm assuming he's talking about the one next to the PCV valve.

Ah, ok I was thinking surge tank. But that one was a pain, too.

I think mine might just be stuck. I got the 1/4" socket and ratchet on there. I was even able to get a 3/8" ratchet on there. But I just couldn't get enough leverage to loosen it up.

If it's never been removed, or it's been awhile it will be hard to break loose. I encountered the same with mine at around 50k miles. It took some effort to remove. Try to get the ratchet a litte above horizontal parallel with the firewall. Then give it some push down force. Yep it's on an awkward place to get leverage. That's why I recommend removing hose, and clips, what ever you can move to get better leverage.

Like said, try to get as much out of the way first and get as big of a ratchet on as you can (i used a 3/8). If its never been removed before it will be pretty stuck. You could try a hollow pipe or something to get some more leverage, careful not to break anything in the way though. I had to call my brother who is much bigger and stronger than me to get enough leverage to get it off when i changed my spark plugs for the first time. Its the worst part of the whole thing.

There are some pipes in the way. Not sure what they are but that's what's making it so tough. And no, it has never been removed and it has over 130,000 miles on it. You think I can spray some WD-40 on it?

No way to get a hollow pipe on the ratchet. That was the first thing I thought of. I have a hollow pipe that I use as a breaker bar and actually had to use it on one of the spark plugs.

This did it for me. It took about 5 seconds to put it on the bolt and one very light push down and it was loose. Within 10 seconds it was out. Amazing what the right tool will do for you!

There's electrical tape on it because it was very loose.

If you haven't put the manifold back on. Make sure you get the support bolts back in first, and hand tighten them.
Then secure the allen bolts in then come back and tighten the support bolts.

The 10mm by the throttle body, 12mm on valve cover, and last the one 12mm behind the manifold.
