Steering Column - Wooden Shim - '07 IS250
So I was a bit of a fool and bought a 2007 IS250 on an online auction. I looked at a ton of pictures and did the carfax and vehicle history which showed no accidents. So I was surprised to find that the Steering Column has a piece of wood wedged in there and it's pretty obvious the area around it including the dash on both sides of the steering wheel had been removed since it's not seated correctly. Any ideas on what this is about? The steering wheel still tries to telescope as I can hear it when I turn the car off. The car steers fine so maybe the tilts mechanism broke?? I also have the sticky dash issue but I'm reading it's too late to get it fixed. The car has 81K miles and is in really good shape aside from the wooden implant. Appreciate any insight.
PS: I tried to attach photos but I must be missing something cuz they're not attaching.

Thank you.....yes that's a great idea.....I'm not sure we have an LKQ in CT but we do have some junk yards that we could check into. I appreciate your reply....I'm sure many are rolling eyes at my stupidity.....but how could I pass up that Glacier Mica Frost with such low miles!! Have a great weekend!

I'm thinking the previous owner may have either tried to change the steering wheel and broke the adjustment lever and then propped it up with the wood. Here's a pic of where the wood is inserted.
