Question Door Belt/Moulding. Trying to Black Everything Out

I have an 08 RWD IS250 and I'm blacking it out 100%. That would require me to wrap or paint the chrome door belts.

So my question is about the black rubber on the door belts. Call me stupid, but do they have a function? Mine are all chipped up and it just looks bad and if i'm going to be wrapping/painting the chrome they are kinda just in the way.
