How to clean intake valves while changing spark plugs?
Hi everyone! So I am going to tackle replacing the spark plugs myself this week on my 07 Lexus IS250.
While surfing the forums for tips, I came across a response advising to clean the intake valves? With sea foam? I have used sea foam before through the gas tank but how would I apply it while changing my spark plugs?
I understand it is to clean the
carbon build up, which I believe I may have, just unsure of how I would use seafoam once I take the intake manifold out and have access to my spark plugs.
I have provided a picture of the response I saw & I apologize if it is extremely large like it is on my phone.
I'm not sure how safe it is to just spray seafoam on the intake valves. If any deposits come off you'd probably want to suck it up instead of leaving it on the valves. I'd suggest a professional walnut blasting service. Audi, BMW, and Subaru techs should be familiar with it.
The way we have done it on my friends is250 for many years now, is to buy sea foam motor treatment, and to use a small garden sprayer to spray it into one of the vacuum hoses going to the intake. We do it while the car is on, and it will require two people because someone has to be in the car keeping the revs up, the car will stall other wise. We keep the revs around 2000 rpm, have to have it spray a very fine mist and just spray a little bit at a time. Sometimes you may get a check engine light, but it will usually go away after you drive the car for a few miles. This has gotten rid of the shuddering and hesitation in my friends car, we do it about every year.
