Hey CL, so I have a 2012 is250 awd and did the is350 bake conversion. I changed everything except for rear dust shields they were just cut around edges.
My issue is this, driver side dust shield plus rotors calipers and so on everything fine but when my mechanic got to the right side he tells me the dust shield was exactly same as driver side the holes didn't align with the bolts. Checked part numbers and we're both correct 47782-30240 Left driver side / 47781-30240 Right passenger side. So he says don't worry it's just a dust shield it won't change anything but hold back water and dust splash so I said just put everything on without the shield then and so he did. All 4 corner fully converted and installed so i took it around the block a few times and no issues but when I got close to home I kept hearing a metal to metal grinding sound everytime i turned specially sharp turns to the left. So after a few calls I got someone who has been modding his IS to GS lexus for years and tells me that the shield is important to be on as it acts like a shim and keeps the rotor from touching the control arm when added too much pressure at full turns since the car is low. So I called lexuspartsnow and I'm over the 30 day return policy so I order another passenger side and came back exactly the same. Currently I'm waiting for lexuspartsnow to verify and was able to get a buddies is350 vin number to verify. Maybe my mechanic was wrong and since I noticed he was getting frustrated and kinda rushing he could've made a mistake but I need help from some of you guys on this issue. Thanks in advance
So this a view from behind the driver side already installed
And these are supposed to be the left pasenger side. top is from 1st order and bottom 2nd order.
You were informed correctly. It is necessary to have the shield in there or you'll face exactly what you are now.
Looks like the Lexus labels got affixed incorrectly to those identical parts.
so basically just like I thought. The mechanic rushing being all frustrated did not fit it right. After a few days of waiting for an answer it ended up being the right part and 2nd mechanic had no issues with it. No more rubbing everything is back to normal and I will be returning the 2nd order for a full refund.
That mechanic will never see another dollar from me ever again.
