Audio Upgrades for non-Mark Levinson Audio System
I have a 2007 IS350 with Nav but without ML sound system. I've added the Vaistech 5i, but that'll probably be replaced with something else soon, otherwise the stereo is stock. There may be some variants, this one has an amplifier in the trunk, but is non-ML.
What's the best option for upgrading the audio without totally redoing everything? I think I'd like to add a subwoofer and a second amp, do people usually just splice into the Amp in the trunk for signal? Does anyone change out the stock amp going to the interior speakers for a better one? Seems like the best basic option is upgrade the amp or add one with a sub and then repurpose the original amp for higher frequencies.
I'm looking for probably links to other threads, but I'm having a hard time finding what I'm looking for. So if there's any fairly basic audio build outs please let me know what they are. Thanks in advance.

Thanks guys, I have another question. On the non-ML system is there any way to tap into the power running to the factory amp so that way I wouldn't have to run another power cable all the way from the battery up front to the back of the car? I doubt it but I thought I'd ask. I want to do a real non-invasive subwoofer setup and just put an all-in-one sub/amp into my cargo net with a quick disconnect so I can pull everything out when I need more trunk space. Also considering going under the passenger seat, but I don't know about that idea.
This is the sub I'm looking at - https://www.rockvilleaudio.com/rw10ca-770348-o/ - it's 10" but thin, 800w, and well reviewed.

Old thread but for anyone new looking at it I'll reply. The factory amplifier is very low power compared to aftermarket so the power cables its using will be woefully insufficient for an aftermarket amp. If you don't know how to properly and safely run a high guage power cable from the battery to the trunk then I strongly advise you to have a professional install shop install your amp.
