IS220d and head gasket - Question
Hello guys,
I recently bought an 06 IS220d with ~111k miles.
The car has a couple of symptoms that could indicate a blown head gasket such as throwing coolant out of the coolant reservoir through the purge tube.
However, car never overheated, car doesn't seem to smoke, heaters seem to work fine, no oil on coolant tank, oil looks good, no paste on oil cap and the car works fine and I've never experienced any power loss.
I took the car to Lexus before buying and asked them to do a check up and mentioned the coolant loss. They said the water pump has never been replaced and is leaking.
I asked the previous owner (a friend willing to help with € if it is indeed the head gasket problem) says the car has been throwing coolant out since he got it in the first place and he put around 40k miles on it.
Could it be possible that a car has a blown head gasket and still work "fine" for over 40k miles? Could it simply be the worn water pump leaking coolant? What else can cause coolant spillage? The water tubes are fine, even when the car is fully warmed up (no stiffness also no leaks accordingly to Lexus). What about the reservoir cap? Should I replace it?
I also came aware of the extended warranty from Lexus corp because of this common issue, 180k Km or 7 years, my car is 2k Km too much but I think that, in the event of it being an head gasket problem, I could email Lexus corp and talk with them about this.
Thanks for your input

Seems to be quite common, my 220D is doing the same thing.
