Can anyone help me identify this engine rattling sound? It seems like it's louder the closer I get to the pulleys.

Sounds like the water pump is on it's way out. Get a large screwdriver and put the metal end on the water pump housing while the car is running. Put your ear to the handle and listen to it, you'll know real quick if it's the water pump making that sound.

Notice any coolant leaks around the weep hole area by any chance?

 

If it was like a 1UZFE with the fan bearing I'd say its that. But not knowing that vehicle it is a bearing for something rotating up front. Get a cheapy stethoscope and probe around a bit.

 

Thanks! I'll check that out. I came across some other videos posted that seemed to have a similar sound and it ended up being the water pump. 130,000 miles seems like it may be a good run for the water pump.

I discovered it was the belt tensioner pulley and just so you know they don't sell that pulley separately full tensioner job is no small affair.

 

Turns out it is the water pump for anyone experiencing the same sound.

 

95% of all 2IS front engine noises sadly are the water pump.
