Default Voltage Regulator

Hello guys the other day I posted requesting some input on my 2008 is 350 giving me trouble starting.. so I did have battery ckd out at Autozone which they intern said I had a bad battery, ok awesome so I thought so I replaced my battery thinking easy fix now they say voltage regulator was coming back needing to be replaced and reading at 13vltz and said shld be at 14 vltz but said my alternator is good...here where Im confused doesnt the alternator and voltage regulator go hand n hand?? I would much appreciate some insight on this

Thx for the info I now have a better understanding how the voltage regulator works now to see how much this is gunna run me to repair ugg
