LED/HID Recommendations
Hey guys,
I've been trying to do some research on switching my Halogens to LED/HID but with the light industry always coming up with new ***** and the huge variety of LED/HID available online from ebay to retailers to random websites the countless number of options makes it pretty difficult to narrow down and lots of threads with opinions are outdated. I have an 06 Is350 and I'm just looking to get some decent quality LED's to give it that pure white look that don't burn out every couple months, ideally I'd like to stay under 100 bucks but I also understand you get what you pay for.
Thanks for the opinions and time.

For $100 your best bet is a simple HID kit that you could choose the colour temperature of. If you'd like something pure white I would recommend a 4300/5000K color temp. 6500K has a slight blue tinge to it. I've used Xenondepot kits before in the past and they are great quality kits for a good price.

There are also other headlights that you can purchase and swap out.. there are many other threads on the forum regarding those - most of which can be found on eBay

Under $100 is more than enough.
HID - xenon hid bulb ($10) + ballast ($25), so $70 total. You'll want 6000k h11 bulbs for white. Takes some simple wiring. HID are less reliable and they broke or burn out easily
LED - there are other brands but I recommend "dragonLEDz". $70 for a pair and it's only in ultra white. Easy plug and play. More reliable and last a long time. But has a soft whirling sounds when on because of a fan on the bulb

So I decided to go with these for $50 on amazon, came with a three year warranty and I could return them easily if I didn't like them.. dragonledz's restocking fee and questionable returns policy turned me off and these seem to have positive reviews from verified purchases and I liked the fact that they were plug and play with no ballasts... so far so good.
Also decided to change the interior to LED and the parking lights to LED, very happy with the look.

Those look great! I've had some luck with Amazon purchases myself. I couldn't stand the difference in colour temp between the stock bulbs, so I went 5k all around with those blue bulb highs for a bit of contrast. Do you plan on some matching fogs?

Where the LEDs compatible with the current hardware? Or was it necessary to use a conversion kit of some sort? I have a '06 IS350 and looking for LED replacement bulbs.

LED/HID application retrofit
Since most of the LED bulbs have their emitters on opposite sides of the element, how does that configuration work with the bulb being 90 degrees to the axis of the housing and lens? It seems to me the reflector was designed for a bulb with 360 degree radiation. Do you get the same pattern of output? What about consistency of light and an even spread across the road? Can anybody attest to results?

Thanks @tlts82
@Wombat58 - That is precisely why we chose to use Lumileds MZ LED diodes. Their "undomed" and miniature design does the best jot at replicating a halogen filament. We also position them in the same spot as the halogen focal point. It's not the same as having a 360 degree halogen filament, but it's as close as you can get... They won't be as bright as the lower priced COB stuff you see other guys selling, but you simply cannot control the light output with those diodes.

I received a set for my fogs and my low beams for free by chance today.. I was snooping around and it looks like there's a piece of insulation directly behind the fog lights. Almost a little too close for comfort with the coils of braided heat deflectors right on the bulb.
Also, I'm assuming that these will not work with the afs lamps considering that large box that encases the bulb ?

has anyone have any experience with these?
