Default Need Help R4 Decoder LED DRLs

I was reading some threads on installing the LED DRLs with the R4 decoders and some say keep the dust covers off some say keep them on and drill through it. Not sure if I want to drill. Also--do the R4s run hot?

I got the decoders from ijdmtoy.com. What I did was break open the housing apart. I had some extra 2" heat shrink and just covered the circuit board. Left the ends a little exposed to vent. I was able to fit the board into the housing with out modifing the lid. It's been fine for about a year now. I check it once in awhile when I'm adding windshield fluid.
