It's all about the platform used, that's the way I see it.
NX shares the Rav4 platform
RX shares the Highlander platform
ES shares the Avalon platform

In that case; Bentley, Audi, Lambo, Porsche, Bugatti are all high-end VWs.. Personally, I don't necessarily see it as a bad thing.. I usually tell people "I got a Toyota with an 'L' emblem on it.."

What's wrong with that? Toyota is, let's be honest the best auto manufacturer, no one builds cars like toyota.

CT shares similarities with the Prius and Scion tC

That said, even when platforms do cross brand lines, the Lexus models get significant work done before they are Lexus ready. This is where I see some of the differences I was talking about relating Toyota/Lexus and Honda/Acura for example.

From what I've been reading (did some googling as a result of this thread), while the platforms are shared, and some common parts are shared, there is less than 50% similarity between any Toyota and Lexus models overall.

Unlike Chevy/Cadillac, Ford/Lincoln, Honda/Acura, Nissan/Infinity, Toyota/Lexus vehicles are not "twins"; their design, materials, and quality control are completely separate, Toyota wants Lexus to be it's own stand alone brand apart from Toyota. Some of the interviews I read from the Lexus Executive Management did indicate that they will share common parts where it makes financial sense to do so, but overall Lexus vehicles share less than 50% similarity with any of their Toyota counterparts, where the others (Chevy/Cadillac and Ford/Lincoln being the worst) share up to 84% similarity between the brands/models.

I am having a hard time with this statement. For one, I do not agree and it is the second time I have heard this while shopping for an IS.

Can someone direct me to some information that states otherwise?
No Toyota of the same class that offers RWD.
