Hey IS peeps!

New owner of a IS350 MY2012 here for the past couple of months.




Looking to draw on the knowledge of the community to see if a bit of smoke on startup is considered normal or not?


Brought it to the dealership and was told they don't feel it's an issue and can be considered normal based on my driving habits. I don't commute with the vehicle and it can sit a few days between uses. When I do use it, some stop-and-go short trips, some highway and some spirited fun. Going to get another opinion from a different dealership, but pretty sure the wealth of knowledge here will be better.

Other relevant info:

• I'm the second owner.
• Records I have of the first owner is on-time maintenance and used synthetic.
• Odometer is currently at about 75,000k
• Car runs great seems to run perfectly - it's peppy, no rough idling....

Looks like blue smoke caused by the engine burning oil.

Does it smoke any after that initial puff of smoke? Does it consume any oil in-between oil changes?

I'd describe the smell as chemical like.

Not sweet like coolant, and not distinctive like the smell of oil.

Puff is for a few seconds and that's it..... once it's all warmed up I can rev it hard and no smoke at all and only a fuel smell. Oil leevel is normal, but I've only driven 2,000-3,000km since I bought it.

Next time you take it out try going W.O.T. a few times to see if that will help. I rarely drive mine as well but I will be driving it in an hour to take my daughter to soccer. Ill see if I notice anything. Running premium gas?

I'd not worry about it really. Take the above advice and get on it a bit whenever you get the chance to drive it. Could be a slight carbon build-up issue or build-up in your cats that are getting tossed out upon the initial start-ups.
