I currently have 180k+ miles on my car and am now adding 2 qts every 3 weeks, which is about 1000 miles driven. I first noticed the problem back in January 2016 when I would add a quart here and a quart there every once in awhile. So you can see the problem is getting worse, needing to add more often. Obviously this is not normal. I've been okay with adding some in between oil changes but now I'm dreading the day I will need to add 2 qts every week. By now I was really hoping there would be a recall/solution but seeing that nothing has been resolved, I did my part in letting Lexus know and also filled out a complaint on https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls. I advise you all to do the same. It takes 5 mins.

I am taking my car in for the airbag recall so again I will bring this up and see if I have additional info to report.

I am experiencing the same issue with my 06 IS 350 with 101K miles as well. This started happening around 95K miles and with Mobile 1 full synthetic oil (5W-30), it consumed almost all of it within 1700 miles. I posted it on NHTSA. If enough people complain, Toyota will be forced to look into this: https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls

Bummer how the exact same model year and same engine could have such differing health. My '06 IS350 is still being fed Mobil 1 5W-30 on 10k mile changes, and at 106k miles still doesn't leak/burn a drop.

Has anyone tried changing their pcv valve? Not sure if you guys are on the Lexus IS350 & ISF Freaks Facebook page but this topic was recently trending.

I changed my valves last week and will be checking up on my oil level until my next oil change (about 2000 miles). Will update you guys. Im hoping it helps because the old valve was really dirty and it seems as if the previous owner had never changed it out.

It was a really tight space but I got it out with a stubby 19mm wrench.

If you have time on your hands you can also remove the top intake manifold which will give you an easier access to remove the valve

^Did you shake the PCV? Did it still rattle? Is so, it was still working. However, the part is <$10; definitely worth replacing if you're having oil burning/consumption issues.

Did you replace the PCV line as well? It's a PIA to get the rear motor nub on.

Default 10w

Okay so I ended up just getting a new car but I was informed that you should try using 10W oil instead. Has anyone tried that?

2006 IS350 w/207k miles. I have had the low oil level light come on while on the freeway only, at about 8 miles from home, and stay on and then go off and come back on as i crest hills and such on the freeway. I wasn't really worried about it, because an oil change made it go away, now i know that a full synthetic oil change only lasts about 2500 miles. I discussed with my mechanic that i can try to do a seafoam treatment every 30 days to help the engine breakdown the existing oil that has been built up in the "top" of the engine. and i have to do a clean out treatment every 30k miles a deep clean or so, or mile mpg suffers and engine response is noticeably slower. recently i replaced the bank 2 sensor 2 and the car runs much better, but oil changes have to be watched. I know i am due for one and it should be time this weekend. Keep an eye on that engine oil warning light and change oil immediately at that point. I like the car love the car, but this issue is surprising. The owners manual says just like mentioned previously it will burn engine oil every quart or so for a few hundred miles. I might try the 10w oil next time, but its just how the engine works so i doubt it would be the type oil. Good luck out there!

10W is thicker than 5W at cold temperature. 5W-30 and 10w-30 will be the same thickness at operating temperature. Not sure if switching would help with oil burning if they are both the same thickness at operating temperature.

Really any oil thicker than the recommended 20 or 30wt is going to net worse MPGs but if the trade off is not putting more oil in every so often then it might be beneficial to try a thicker oil. I've read in older threads about thicker oil helping the situation.

Guys, if you're burning so much oil in most cases your piston rings are screwed.

It's time to move up to a thicker oil.

Regardless of what the OEM recommended fluid is, you need to go thicker.

You're all experiencing oil burning problems at 100k+ miles.. yes it sucks, but that's wear and tear as well.

5-30 is way too thin for what you guys are getting, it's time to bump it up.

next change, try a 10-40, see if it's better, worse case knock it up to a 15-40 or 20-50 (try and keep 20-50 as an absolute last resort).
