Default Dealer recommending carbon cleaning 2008 is350

Hi,

I took my IS into Lexus to take care of oil maintenance and aux noise and the Lexus dealer is recommending I do a carbon cleaning on my 2008 is350. I've searched for threads and I know it's a problem on the is250s and the is350 shouldn't have the same problem because of the dual injectors. The dealer was quoting around $300 to clean.

I'd like to hear your thoughts if the carbon cleaning is needed or not.

Thanks.

They're recommending the same on my '10 LS as part of 90K service. I want a second opinion.

Unnecessary for the 350, the port injection working along with the direct injection keeps the valves clean, preventing the carbon buildup like on the 250.

litesoarer, it should be the same case with your LS, I believe your 460 (or 600h?) LS was offered with the same d-4s system (port + direct injection) so you shouldn't have carbon buildup.

if your 350 engine is dirty, blast it to red line with good fuel
you get fun and a clean engine this way

I use redline fuel system cleaner but I heard I'm suppose to use it after a oil and filter change?

Not sure about that but I dont think it is necessary if you use top tier gas with good detergent in it.
just give it a full rev once in a while (of course when the engine is fully warmed up)

Unnecessary. Typical dealership add-on sale to increase money in their pockets.

I figured.

It's not like I don't give the car a good run through the gears every so often.

Does the car drive good, and any power lack?

Despite the IS250 really having the bigger problem of the two, the IS350 does still build up more carbon than a port-injection only car. It's not usually enough to start causing misfires and things of that nature like it does on the IS250, but if you've got high mileage, it might not be a terrible idea.

Still, if the car is driving fine, I can't really see why they would be offering it to be honest. (Possibly because of money, lol)
