P0430 Bank 2
I've been getting this code off and on for about 18 months, mostly off. It's come on when I drove to Dallas and then goes away when I get back to Austin. Or weather changes. This past weekend it came on and then went away with a new tank of gas.
From what I've read it could be three things: exhaust leak, O2 sensors, or the catalytic converter. Because it comes and goes randomly I believe I can cross off an exhaust leak. I took a look underneath the other day and couldn't see any holes either. There was one area that was suspicious because it had a residue on it. I will be testing it soon with soapy water.
The next thing is the O2 sensor. It seems to be there likely culprit. Bank 2 is driver side. Is this located right below to driver's seat? I located that one and changing it out looks easy enough. Does the plug just pull out?
My car does smell of sulphur when under hard acceleration but usually only the first couple of times. Is that how it should be? Or is that a sign that the catalytic converter could be bad?

Very rarely is it the catalytic converter.
Because it comes and goes randomly, I'd say it is even more likely to be an exhaust leak. Every time you begin another OBD2 drive cycle, it's a roll of the dice whether the catalytic converters light off before the OBD catalyst efficiency test runs. Before I spent a dime, I would carefully check the Y-pipe, especially under the heat shield, for a leak.

i Have a 2006, my mechanic says that the code is for the cat convert, and it could come back on at anytime. all he did was reset the code and it hasnt come back on, it has been about 1k miles now since that and no difference in how the car drives whatsoever. Good luck to you.
