Default How often do you change rotors?

Getting my front brake pads changed and was wondering if I should also get the rotors replaced as well. It has about 20k miles on them. Thanks.

The best way is to measure it. I'm in the same boat in that I think it needs to be changed, but don't want to take it to measure and then decide if it needs to be changed.

My rotors probably need to be changed. It had been on there for 2 brake pad changes (about 65K miles total). I'm pretty sure your rotors don't need to be changed in 20K miles.

I have a 100k miles on my original rotors. Brakes were replaced at 60k miles by dealer, prob gonna need new brakes soon, I'm guessing rotors too. If your good about replacing brake pads when you need to, and not waiting to long riding on worn out pads, rotors should last a long time. Def way longer then 20k miles. How did your brakes only last 20k miles?

Probably the type of driving he does. You can kill a set of brake pads in a few hours on a track.

It's going to depend on the type of pads you have and the type of driving you do. On my IS, I run the high-friction/high-dust Textar T4146 pads and the rotors have been done at the same time as the pads, approximately 30k miles, twice. They weren't below spec, but they were worn enough that they would not last much longer.

With less aggressive pads, like the ones that I use in the rear, the rotors will last a long time. I've machined mine once, replaced the pads once and they still have plenty left at 65k miles.

and if you are easy on your car you can get 80k out of the front OEM pads/rotors and 120k out of the rears.

I'm at 140k miles now since new on my 2010 AWD and am aiming to get 250k out her.

Default Dealership or Private Shop for brakes/rotors

Getting some recall work done (fuel pump seal) and the dealership quoted me $631 for front rotors and brake pads. Private shop (lexus and toyota specialized) quoted me $450 range. Any concern with using the private shop and not dealership parts? Or will the private shop use Lexus parts as well?
I was told at the private shop that the IS350 burns through rotors. Seems to me after a bit of reading on the CL site I will burn through pads (and make a mess on the wheels) but the rotors should be fine as long as pads are changed when needed.

Thanks for the help!
