Default dash squeak with video, please help...

Since new, I've had a squeak coming from my dash that I've never been able to isolate. Well, I finally found the spot after years of mystery, but don't know how to get in there or even what exactly is creating the noise.

The location is inside the glovebox, along the front, bottom, right edge, where it meets the lower, exterior dash piece. The squeak happens at all speeds and in all weather conditions. I'd have to guess it's metal on metal, hence the squeak sound and not a rattle sound.

In the video, I am lightly pounding on the lower part of the opened glovebox to get the squeak sounds.

Has anyone experienced this noise? Any ideas on how or where I can get to the spot? I'd even pay the dealer to help get this quiet. It's been an eight year trip trying to figure this one out.

Thanks for any info or advice.

There is a support bar behind the dash, it might be that or one of the covers rubbing around. There are metal clips on the lower kicker cover that go in to the lower airbag case which is also metal, that's where my noise was, I used pieces of a T-shirt in between all the panels I removed and now it's quiet.

Good info! The sound seems to come from the front part of the dash, not buried in back. So based on what you listed, I'd guess it could be the metal clips for the lower kicker cover? Is the kicker cover the part of the dash one's knees would line up with, just below the glovebox? That's where the sound is coming from when I pound on the inside.

Also, what was involved removing those pieces to get inside there?

Thanks!

You can try spraying some wd40 down the crevice and see what it can do. wd40 will not stain anything and doesnt leave any strong odors.

The front part of it pops out and the back is held in so don't pull on that part first. The front clips need to be piped out then you can slide it out but there is a wire for the led light so be carful.

If you can get to the two parts that are rubbing together causing the squeak you could try putting some adhesive backed moleskin (aka sticky backed felt) on them.

Lots to take in here. I am reading all and saving this. Thank you all and I also hope to hear more if there's more info. If I can fix this squeak, the interior will completely silent which is amazing for a 2008 car.
