Default Strange noise when I put it in reverse today...

Whats up fellas, got a 2006 IS 250 awd. Its lowered just a tad bit. Anyway, when I put it in reverse or drive but don't move I get a vibration with what sounds like a slow diesel sound...very hard to explain. Anyway, today I went to backup out of the garage soon as I put it in reverse it made that sound but also what sounded like belt squeal. It's never made that sound before. I put it in N and all vibration and sound stop, moved it to R and did it again.
Havent been able to replicate the belt squeal sound again though. Any ideas on that sound? Ive excepted the vibration sound to being normal for a awd lowered car but, the belt squeal sound?

Ideas?

I would suspect a transmission or engine mount. When these go bad it will let the motor/transmission twist just a little bit, which could be making the exhaust hit the floorpan.

Thanks for the response. Any idea on the "belt squeal" sound?

I'm a Lexus Master Tech,

This may be a long shot, but I would immediately suspect a cold start misfire due to carbon build up on the valves. if you have a 2006-2010(most) then Lexus extended the warranty for this issue for 9 years from the date of first use and unlimited miles. What happens is that fuel from the cold start injector soaks into the carbon and causes a misfire.

Hope this helps!

Thank you. Lexus rebuilt the engine about a yr ago so I don't think that is the issue. I'm wondering if the converter is putting some type of strain or load on the engine when putting it into a gear causing the belt squeal....

Mine started showing the exact same symptoms.
only when in gear - either reverse or drive - the car makes a squealing noise which is very similar to a belt squeal. However, the noise disappears as soon as the car rolls with a bit of speed.
In low speed, when the rpm is low.
any idea what this would be?

Mine hasn't done it in awhile. Never found the reason for it?
