When exactly do you guys hear the rattling noise??? Because on start-up I dont hear a rattling noise, but when I gas lightly I do here something rattling.. I've been trying to pinpoint this noise, but I'm not sure if it's the cam gear bolts.. It does come from the engine bay though. Can someone verify if this is the noise you guys hear or is this something else?

Doesn't matter where you bought the car from. You can call any Lexus dealer and find out the correct information.

Lexus Portland started in on my 2007 IS350 today. I brought it in for a normal 40K mi oil service and the cam gear recall. It has 38,900 miles on it.
I get a call mid day saying bad news - my water pump is leaking. I was in a meeting, so I couldn't really talk (or start screaming WTF?!?).
Totally dissapointed. I've had Toyotas my entire life, and didnt have water pump issues ever - but changed them out close to 100K miles as a precaution.
The service writer said my warranty was up in April of this year - so it's $900.00.
He said since I just bought it a month ago (private party) and I'm new to this dealership he can knock $100.00 off. His regional rep will be in tomorrow to hopefully talk with Corp Lexus for a larger discount.

After putting 70K miles (nearly trouble free) on the Infiniti that this Lexus replaced, kind of rethinking my decision.

^The water pump is the MOST COMMON failure on the 2IS model. Hell, I had mine replaced at only 27k miles. All is good still while now at 70k.

I believe Toyota/Lexus had a bad run with water pumps in general for years 06-08.

Thanks guys. After researching late last night and checking prices I called the dealer to tell them I'd do the pump myself - I didn't realize the timing belt could be left on.
The service rep said they already tore into it - but the district manager was able to get the parts for free, and take $100.00 off labor.
$600.00 out the door including the 40K mi service - which I won't complain about. I picked up the car well below blue book, so still have a positive attitude
Have her back today - looks good.
Dealer was nice enough to shoot me a picture of the pump - looked to be a significant leak. lol

The specific rattle addressed in this recall is intermittent only on cold startup. It only lasts for a few seconds then it goes away. It's is a horrific sounding metal on metal rattle. You will know it if it happens. The noise you are describing is something else.

If it is still in the 4yr/50k warranty it should be covered. I think there is a TSB for that concern. Definitely no recall.

At least they fixed it before it got too bad. I've seen a few vehicle get new engine because of leaking water pumps.

not all of them, only if your vin number falls into the effected range.

pm me your VIN number and i can check the lexus national database to see if it qualifies for this or any other recall.

PS customer notification letter is NOT required at any dealership for recall repair work to be performed, some recalls have limited parts supply (we can only order 2 DLG (cam gear) parts kits per day)

The dealer was able to verify that mine was effected by VIN. Mine goes in next Tuesday, once they get the needed parts.

they should be getting in 2 parts kits every day, my dealer had 9 DLG cam gear replacement recalls in today. (because the people that schedule the appointments don't know how to count to 2) we had to reschedule 16 appointments between today and Saturday because the scheduled way too many.
