When you had the 2012 IS250 as a loaner, was the ride more tolerable? comfy? If so, it most likely had the 17" wheel/tire package, which makes it more tolerable. Either you can buy a new set and sell your 18" set to help make up for the loss, or trade with someone with the 17" set.

I moved from an e46 to the IS. The standard springs were OK, but not as comfortable as the IS. The sports springs were downright worse, noticeably. There is no way a 2001 330i is more comfortable than a 2009 IS unless the previous owner replaced the shocks/springs with something aftermarket and the tires are over inflated. Personally, I got so used to the ride of my e46 that I didn't even notice how uncomfortable it was until I moved to the IS. I can now do a 3 hour trip and come out of the car without having my lower back and my neck ache.

Check to make sure that the spring on your car right now is the stock spring. Also make sure that the shock doesn't leak or gone bad. If you buy it used, anything can go wrong. Lexus IS should drive quite smooth, very similar to, if not more comfortable than, old model BMW (E46, E90). If it were New F30 3Series Bimmer, then the comment could have been different.

Two more things:
1) As the car ages, the suspension gets softer. There is hope in the longrun.
2) With every/any new car, you have to get used to it. When I first got all my past new cars, I was shocked over many things about each. Then after a few months, you totally forget about them and get used to it.
Keep these things in mind and be patient.

In the IS, as the car ages, the suspension gets firmer. At 55k my car feels like i have aftermarket shocks. Cuz they settle and the bushings wear out.

Its simple, go to your nearest BMW dealer and trade it for a ride of your choice there. But this time do yourself a favor and TEST drive whatever you get including taking it for a highway spin.

God knows what went on with the IS you bought, maybe the previous owner had an accident or messed with it.

There is no way an old Beamer will ride better than any Lexus say 06 and higher I will go as far as even a Lexus of the same year.

Two things:

1) This guy is a Troll
or
2) There is something wrong with the IS.

I have owned both a 01 330ci and a 06 IS350 & 250 and there is no way the e46 BWM rides any more comfortably than the IS.

Exactly. And don't buy the first car you look at. Test drive at least 3-4 of them before pulling the trigger

I have to disagree with you, i had an e39 530 sports pkg and it was very smooth for being on sport springs. My buddies got 328ci and 330ci sports pkg, both are pretty smooth. I have coilovers on my car so i cant complain, but i drove stock is250awd as a loaner its deff not smoother.... now the rx350 is friggen smooth as hell!!! The es350 is one uncomfy vehicle i took for a road trip when my IS was at the dealer, it was not comfy at all!!!!!

You can't really compare an AWD to RWD for ride quality, there's some pretty significant drivetrain/suspension/weight differences.

Like others have said, I would check the tire pressure. If all else fails, maybe you did buy the wrong car. Maybe test drive an ES? It may fit your needs better than the IS

Seems like you need an ES or a Camry if you wanted living room comfort.
