How do you know if the water pump is leaking? I remember seeing some pink stuff on the cap of some tank under the hood, but I think the dealer cleaned it out ...
Seems strange that the water pumps are failing with such low mileage. When these engines had timing belts the pump was changed with the belt only because it made sense to do it while you were in there. Now these pumps are failing with what I would call low mileage. The pump must have been made cheaper.
Yes but those are on cars with internal water pumps. The is has a external pump so it has nothing to do with the timing belt.
I’ve gotten curious and wanted to see just how many of us have had their water pumps prematurely fail. From my experience with cars I would say these pumps should last 80-100k miles before they are changed. However please post at approximately what mileage your pump failed and if Toyota fixed it no questions asked if you were still covered by the 70k miles power train warranty.
Mine failed at 53,000 miles it started with bad bearing noise, dealer replaced no questions asked.
