Under full throttle or when you let off the throttle.

Also, is the car warm (at running temp 100%) or is it still cold?

I've noticed because of cam timing that the 2GR motor will backfire into the intake when it's cold on full throttle pulls.

I occasionally get a nice pop - I have a the F-Sport intake and exhaust, with an Invidia midpipe. It's somewhat surprising that you get backfire with a stock midpipe.

I experience this some days when pulling out of work. We literally have to jet out of our side-street to merge into traffic...so though I don't mean to, some times I get more aggressive with the gas than one should before the car is warm. I'll get a cool-sounded pop/backfire in-between the first-second shift.

It's normal. I get about 100+ backfires just driving to and from school everyday lol. Especially if you delete the resonators and secondary cats, the backfires get really loud. One time, I downshifted under a tunnel and it backfired so loud, everyone's third brake lights came on lol.
