Smile New to Lexus family and forum

Hello everyone, I just picked up a new (to me) '09 IS250 last week.... I am stoked about this car and I am learning as much as I can about it from the forums....

Now that I've driven it all around town for a good few days and my tank is quickly approaching E my first question to y'all is...What octane do you use? I know Lexus suggests Premium, but is there any reason why I couldn't drop it down to a mid-grade level?

Better not to drop down on the gas level... you bought a luxury car, so treat her nice

The engine has been designed to run on Premium gas because of it's high compression. If you want to run lower octane to save cash, you are going NOWHERE. Mostly likely, you will end up with WORSE gas mileage running lower octane. So in the end, you might was well buy Premium.

I did the exact stuff you were thinking on my Nissan SE-R Spec V ... in the end, my gas milease dropped from 27 MPG to 20 MPG on FREEWAYS. Not worth it to be a cheap bastard.... if you can't afford the gas, then you might as well get a Honda.

BTW// Congrats on the car...

Welcome and congrats on the new car, post up a pic too!

As far as the octane goes, fill the premium. It's what the motor was engineered to run on And like shadowman said, this engine is high compression, so you really are better off sticking with premium then saving 10 cents a gallon to put mid-grade in instead. The car will be most efficient on Premium

Grats on the new purchase! If you haven't already, read through this thread: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...ease-read.html

Tons of info there, including one on the type of gas to use. The car has a high compression engine so using lower than 91 octane will cause premature ignition (pings.) Not good.

And pics!
