You always get less MPG with the windows down on the freeway, because of the amount of drag you create with the windows open at those speeds.

I get about 22 - 23, 80% highway and 20% city. ECT Normal.

Now I'm trying ECT Power to see if that helps with the MPG. I do notice that the car revs higher with ECT Power.

Not sure where this came from as I never said anything about having your window(s) open or not, but since you've brought up this subject, this has actually been tested that A/C is more inefficient than having your window cracked (or even completely down). The first test showed it was slightly (barely) better, but it didn't actually measure the total fuel consumption (only air intake). The second test they did was definitive and gained 15% more fuel economy (a substantial amount) by having the windows down -vs- the A/C on.

I live in Oregon and it's actually cold here (32-35 deg. F), so having the window down is not even remotely close to what I was talking about. I have my climate control set to AUTO and it only (for the most part) uses the heater. I have (with no doubt) seen a significant increase in mpg by turning the auto climate control off. Whether you believe it or not is for you to test.

So, here's the deal. When you turn the climate control to off, the air conditioning compressor will not run at all, you will get better gas mileage. If you open the windows to get some fresh air, you will increase your wind resistance and cause your MPG to go down. Most modern A/C compressors for cars take around 2-5 HP to operate.

The reports I've read say:
The power required to overcome the additional drag of having the windows down exceeds the power required to run the air conditioning compressor at around 35 MPH. If you're going to be traveling faster than 35MPH you'll get better mileage with the windows up and the A/C on. If you don't need cool dry air at all, having the climate control turned off will give you the best mileage.
In many cases even thought the outside air is cold, the A/C compressor still cycles to dry the air so the windows don't fog up.

I remember when I was a kid my Dad would put a gallon of gas in the neighbor Bob's VW bug every week just to mess with his mileage figures. Bob would come over and brag about how great his mileage was on and on and on... Then after a few months Dad stopped and Bob had the car in the dealer's garage for weeks. When Dad finally let him in on the gag you should have seen the look on Bob's face...

Hope that helps
