The official "I've got a dent in my 2IS roof" thread

After figuring out this is more than an a obscure occurrence that I had with my IS350, I figured why not get a true total of members with this issue all in one thread.

Please feel free to vote on the poll as a tally and post up your pictures of the dents too.

Perhaps down the road this known issue can be made light to Corporate!

Thanks!

Here's my dent :

Not on my 08

StrykarISF 01-11-12 06:13 PM

I have a small dent on my roof near the shark fin antenna in the rear

anthrax144 01-11-12 06:24 PM

I have the exact same indentation in my roof as your picture, Gville. Seriously, that could be a picture of my car.

is_baby 01-11-12 06:29 PM

So these dents only occur if you have a sunroof?...

ms2619 01-11-12 07:19 PM

omg...I have the same damn dent!!! My car was hit on the left and I thought that might have caused it but I thought I was the only one...anyone know what is causing that to happen??? I would love to get it fixed because I was considering blacking out the roof but with the dent the film won't sit equal :/

ILL250 01-11-12 08:08 PM

I have like 3 small ones around the sunroof and i think 3 more near the antenna area

Jeff Lange 01-11-12 08:15 PM

No sunroof, no dent.

Jeff

RDIS250AWD 01-11-12 10:44 PM

dent free thank god bc I wrapped my roof with cf vinyl and it was a PITA! I would hate to remove it and wrap it again

don 01-12-12 12:15 PM

I just dented my roof so I can be a part of this club :woot:

Refer to this thread for more info. The two threads should be merged together :)..

18 yes to 29 no...wow, that's nearly 40% with dents or dimples in their roofs. FAIL!

Jeff Lange 01-21-12 12:16 PM

I am surprised how many there are. I can't recall noticing any that I've looked at, but maybe I'll keep an eye out. I wonder if it's more of a heat thing? It doesn't get as hot up here...

wrd, although I don't use my sun roof at all.

IS250Vic 01-21-12 12:29 PM

Checked my car, and there are no dents... this concerns me a bit, especially when a few ppl who have these dents haven't been in previous accidents!

LamTheSham 01-27-12 11:39 PM

Ahhhh I have a dent. :[ Same spot!

evogt500 01-28-12 12:49 AM

People with the dent should say if their car is lowered or not.

IS2FIFTY 01-28-12 12:54 AM

I don't have any dents on my roof *knock on wood* but I have noticed random scratches in one section like a cat jumped on my roof or something :uh: but my front bumper is all messed up from rock chips from my car being lowered since its my DD :(

david.luu 01-28-12 08:56 AM

Funny.. I have the same dent but on both sides of the sunroof. Anybody knows why?

Chassis flex in an area with little to no structural rigidity.

Gville350 02-10-12 02:21 PM

So, has anyone paid to have any roof dents fixed yet? Did the dent stay away, or did it reappear?

Herofmine 02-10-12 07:20 PM

Then only certain ISx50 with certain yrs has dent on roof, i didnt check mine yet but i will tomorrow.
By the way not easy to fix the dent on roof its a hardest part of job for bodyshops, and if you pull it out you should get it painted, so not good idea to fixing it better to keep it the way it is:)

Gville350 03-23-12 07:50 PM

Fantastic, now I've got a new one developing in the right rear corner of the sunroof! Can I vote twice for my own poll thread?

felixsc300 03-23-12 09:03 PM

I have a small dent courtesy of the P.O. - right above where the passenger-side visor is. This was due to a rock chip, Long simply gave me a tube of touch-up paint to fill it in. :egads:

Nothing to the extent of the damage next to y'all's moonroof though, that just looks scary.

I've got one behind my sunroof. Not as bad as the others.. But annoying. Have a guy that's gonna fix the dent, buff out a couple scratches and black out the roof for 300.

heyarms 03-24-12 07:59 AM

I don't currently but ever since lowering on coils when I go in my driveway the roof pops and creeks... I think this is my cars next "mod" :p :(

Formeister 03-24-12 02:36 PM

Interesting to read this. I stepped sideways from an 09 Si to an 08 is250 (miss the power, mpg and ergonomics but like the smoother ride and better paint). Anyway, dent's around the sunroof, exactly as you pictured are occurring frequently in Civic Si's too. After 20K miles in mine I never had a problem nor do I have one on my 250 with almost 50k miles. I rarely used the Si's s/r and of course with the design of the Lexus s/r I don't know of anyone who would use it due to the buffeting and wind noise but, I digress. What I theorize, from other's driving styles or miss fortunes, is that the major cause of the dimpling is due to curbing the wheels, potholes, or extreme driving while the sunroof is open. This leads me to believe structural integrity is slightly compromised when the s/r is open. Repairing these divots is not an easy task. YMMV, this is just my observation. Don't want a dimple? Keep the hole closed and stay off the curbs.

Alex350 03-25-12 07:12 AM

My car is currently at the body shop getting repaired, so I'll let you all know how it all turns out in terms of the dents in the roof. The body shop guy said that they can easily fix the dents without having to repaint or anything of that sort, so I assume they will use some sort of suctions cups or something. BTW, having the sunroof open/closed doesn't make any difference. My sunroof was closed when the roof was dented, so I don't think it matters at all.

Good point...my dent appeared over "winter" and I hadn't used the sunroof in months.

robertrios 08-18-12 11:42 PM

noticed the same exact dent on my ISF that was shown in the first pic, if its structural shouldnt we be reporting these to Lexus and have them fix it?

RocketGuy3 08-19-12 12:08 AM

Yes! I have the same "dent" that the OP has...

I discovered the problem years ago on my 07 (maybe a couple years after buying her), and I was going to take it to the dealer to see if they'd cover it under warranty, but I'm not someone who's very good at making a fuss about something like that, and I figured they wouldn't fix it for me without a struggle, so I decided to let it go for now, heh. It no longer bothers me that much, and no one notices it until I point it out, but it's still a bit disappointing.
