Quality Slip
There is some truth to the LS being a more expensive car and the IS trying to be built to be "cost competitive Lexus" verses the best car built, almost regardless of cost..Like the LS..
Not to say it is not a great car, but it's price point is not near the GS or LS...and that has to have an impact.
Lexus has admitted that they relied too much on computer designs and didn't build enough mules to test out fitment of actual components before going into production, hence the rattles in the IS and GS lines. This should improve in the new GS and when the new IS comes out.

...but glad it was 45k too because it was still covered under the 4yr/50k warranty with the TSIB
I do not have a dash rattle, mine is an 06 with 25k,...is it bound to come up later?
Also, I agree I miss the build quality of my IS 300, it had 155k and drove perfect, minor things broke. But, it drove like it was brand new and I miss that in the new one. I would go buy an old one any day. I have been tempted to get an ls 400 or 430

Glad to hear other people are annoyed to. It pisses me off how Lexus says all this stuff is "normal." It was like the issue with the transmission on the 99-00 RX300. Lexus never admitted it was a defect b/c most failures happened after say 70,000 miles. Acura had the same problem with the TL and MDX, but they stepped up to the plate and recalled the transmissions. The rattle problem is something that can be fixed supposedly by just changing the dash clips to an updated design, but since my car is out of warranty it doesn't make sense to do the fix. The parts are about $10 and labor is about $1000 so its pure stupidity to do it. Im thinking about selling the IS and the ES and getting a LS460 or maybe switching to a BMW or Mercedes. I know they are not as reliable, but i'll buy one with a warranty. Im going to be giving this some serious thought over the next few weeks.
Its odd that so many are having so many minor issues, but yet with my '06 (third owner) I do not have any of the common noises, rattles, NAV issues, etc. Just glad mine is rock solid I guess.
I have some creaking sounds too. But I don't think my dealership is competent enough to provide a solution for it. However I found out a fix from another fellow CL member on another thread to fix the creaking and rattling noises.
But I must admit , the car is perfect in all other aspects. Its just these rattling and creaking noises.

I started hearing my dash rattle right after I got the car but never talked to the dealer about it. After some time, it just went away and I never heard it again. My 07 IS350 is at 58,000 miles and so far so good. My only concerns are just a squeaky drivers seat when I got over bumps and stuff, the start-up grind but after getting an Invidia Midpipe and HKS Hi-Power I can't hear it with the loud start-ups, and a random sound that I'm guessing it's the water pump or loose belts/pulleys.
chi, there is a tsb for the squeeky drivers seat too.
Apparently, there are some plastic spacers that are supposed to be removed on shipment but weren't.
thanks to calvin's posts on dash rattling, I found a quick fix using a black eraser cut into an inch long wedge and jammed between the windshield and dash right in front of the empty compartment (that looks like it's a speaker but isn't -- might hold the ML sub if so equipped). Problem solved. I actually drove around all day yesterday with no stereo on, just listening to the sound of my engine and the winter tires I just swapped in.
it was heavenly...

1) They loaded up on foam in the center. The dash flexes much less when you push on it in the center now, which makes me believe they added a big chunk of foam under the center (as others have reported as a fix).
2) They used foam strips that had adhesive on one side to keep it in place. Apparently my rattle came back because the foam they put on originally had come loose from where it was supposed to be insulating. This time they used foam with adhesive tape on the back that keeps it in place.
