Tire is separating?

I noticed that the side wall on my tire is separating. Anyone know what caused this?

Does this go all the way around the rest of the tire? How's your air pressure? What's the manufacture date on the tires?

whitebeast Sep 19, 2011 12:31 PM

it's just wheel protection lip so nothing wrong. It's normal
Someone correct me if i was wrong.

Gville350 Sep 19, 2011 12:31 PM

Weathering, tire age, and LOW air pressure will aid in that type of cracking.

+1.
Hence those questions....I'm gonna bet on weathering/tire age if it does not circumvent the tire. If it does, I'm going with low pressure.

It doesn't go all the way around and the tire pressure is good. I have to look at the manufacture date when I'm on break.

Can someone confirm this? If not, I'll get a new set of tires or something

Could be it, what brand tires are they?

UrHookUp Sep 19, 2011 04:46 PM

Could be from curb or pot hole.
Should take it to a tire store that is a reseller of that brand tire.

KillaIS250 Sep 19, 2011 04:58 PM

Nah that's not the wheel protection lip that's cracking. I had something like that before, happens when you drive on low pressure, or have low tire pressure and let the car sit. The weight of the car damages tires if you've got low pressure.

I take it back after i a good look at your picture clearly (cannot see it well this morning)

aged of tire plus running with a low pressure tire causes cracks on sidewall, that's dangerous, consider replacing it before its to late..

Lil4cyl Sep 19, 2011 10:39 PM

Must replace asap. dangerous.

I checked my tire pressure and it's at 32 psi. Is that low?

I keep my tires at 37-38 PSI cold.

Sango Sep 20, 2011 11:04 PM

Tire advise as per alignment tech person for my car.

40 PSI fronts
36-40 PSI rears
