Melting Dash
#61
Just googling this issue I found this.
http://www.wptv.com/money/consumer/t...ay-for-repairs
And a service bulletin has been announced already. http://media2.wptv.com/documents/lexusTSB.pdf
Looks like the 06'-08' models are affected and that many people/dealerships know about this. Hopefully the 09'-14' models have been ironed out.
But wow, I hadn't thought about this safety issue until I read this from the above article.
"Drivers feel the defect is unsafe, and shine a light on the issue with videos taken from their point of view. Now we've learned the safety issues may go even deeper.
"Because this dashboard has the airbag inside on the passenger side I wouldn't feel safe in a car that had a cracked dash," explained Stewart. "Anything that would make an airbag go off too soon or go off too late would be very serious."
The federal agency that oversees safety issues has only received a handful of complaints. Hundreds more are complaining on social media."

Thats the whole point of this article that I originally posted. A big dealership is actually starting to back up the customers because the owner is saying that the manufacturers should take responsibility especially out of warranty due to safety issues with the airbags going off prematurely.

No It's Not Fair
Lexus dashboards are made in China. Ring a bell???? Think about the other items that have come from China that are defective. Lexus/Toyota has a major problem on their hands are are refusing to address it. These dashboards are defective - plain and simple.
My 2008 RX350 has a cracked dashboard over the glove compartment above where the airbags will deploy. So what happens to all that cracked dashboard if the airbags deploy?
File a complaint with the TSA. Use twitter, Facebook, etc to make the country aware of this problem and Lexus refusal to fix it.

No it is not fair. Lexus is refusing to cover melting and cracked dashboards. You must file a complaint at https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/Vehicl...nt/index.xhtml. This is the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration. Your complaint will be logged, but your personal information is protected.
Melting and cracked dashboards are a serious safety issue due to the location of the airbags. This is a serious issue.

Lexus Dashboards are made in China
I own a 2008 RX350. This vehicle cost me $45,000. I had intended on keeping it for ten years then trading for a new one. The mileage is around 57,000. So what do you think the trade-in value is going to be with a cracked dashboard that Lexus refuses to replace? These dashboards are made in China!!!

[Rant ahead]
Went to Lexus of Melbourne for my mirror of a dashboard and playdoh door panels. I was told that since my car wasn't exclusively serviced at the dealer they couldn't touch it. I was then given the corporate number and shown the door. Called corp. and they responded with your car is out of warranty, is there anything else we can do for you?..... Now I've never been the entitled whiner type, I rarely even return items to the store but the one time I voice my legitimate concern for not only my safety and others, I get the one finger salute, not even a free oil change lol.
My next step was filing NHTSA and submitting my consumer class action claim. Sure that will get me nowhere but If that doesn't work it's on to plan C..
I never had to worry about this kind of BS in my tC. This shouldn't be a problem with a car no matter how old. They didn't learn from the sub-par dash/interior they put in the IS300 and now they wanna sit on their hands again. Tell you what they can pop a finger or two in there while they're at it. MAN UP Toyota, fix our s*#$! [End rant]
