Carfax is useless! Use title records to find the previous owner and find out the true story. Most bodyshops offer a lifetime warranty on paintwork and he might even have the receipt on the work done!

Sorry about your situation, best thing you can do now is take it to a reputable body shop and make sure they use flex agent in the paint.

CarFax doesn't do ****, I learned my lesson. My G35 does not show any accident history yet is repainted in four different areas. In fact, my old SC300 is totaled to bits and pieces, yet out of curiosity when I ran a check on it it came up as clean. I was rear-ended in my G35 in July 2010 and there is no indication of the accident.

Show you the CarFax? Puh-lease.

Don't think the worse has happened...up till now you thought you had a good ride with minor paint problems. Fix the paint and ride on.

GL!

I get a chuckle every time a buyer comes in to my dealer and demands a carfax as if its their god given right. carfax is a complete joke. government regulations already require dealers to disclose bent frames, flooding, salvage ect. ect. IMO, its up to the buyer to inspect door frame/hood for inconsistent gaps, aftermarket paint flaws and windshield manufacturer stamps to get the full story. I've had body work done on my IS three times and all three times - nothing was reported to carfax.

I'd still go back to where you bought it from and present your complaint. You have nothing to lose and possibly something to gain. At the very least, it may get the new people at the dealership to think twice about their future choices of repair and sale.

My guess is that after 3 years the dealer isn't going to do anything about it. Most likely they didn't even know about the paint job, and like posted previously, after 3 years at a dealership, there's probably only a handful of people that still work there. But give it a shot!

Most warranties like that are null & void if the owner sells the car.

I think the person who sold the car used a cheap body shop to paint since it was last ditch effort before car was sold/traded.

Most body shops will offer life-time warranty on the paint. Too bad the original owner was a scam... Otherwise, he/she would have included the warranty for the paint job. You gotta read the fine print on the bodyshop... some warranty follow the car.
